Welcome Program
Our Welcome Program gives you an opportunity to mentor refugees who have recently arrived in the United States. Though many may come from Afghanistan, we also receive refugees from other areas in the world. Their needs vary, but mentoring may include helping with basic integration and logistics, teaching basic living skills, and presenting cultural awareness training.
DETAILS:
- Mentor individually, in pairs, or in groups
- Meet weekly with your refugee friend(s)
- Attend a monthly activity with other mentors and refugees in your cohort
- Touch base with an Of One Heart coordinator through a monthly check-in
- 6-12 month commitment
Friend Program
Our Refugee Friend Mentoring Program is an opportunity for you to get to know and help a refugee friend who has been in the United States for longer than one year. This program is goal/theme focused. As a mentor, you will help your friend by getting to know them, answering their questions, and helping them set and achieve their goals through weekly meet-ups and virtual interactions. Group activities include a service project and a cultural celebration where refugees will share about their countries of origin.
